Some Not Kitsch Wedding Anniversary Gift Ideas

The seeds for SoundLines were germinated with our personal frustration at all the gimmicky and frankly quite kitsch gifts being marketed to us around our 10 year wedding anniversary. If you are a sentimental gift giver and are wanting to mark the anniversary of your wedding in a thoughtful and meaningful way, without breaking the bank, it can feel like a herculean task. It can feel like wandering through a nauseating photo montage of couples and hearts! So after ten years of being hitched, we have collated a list of what we think are meaningful and great wedding anniversary gifting ideas.

Some gifts are about creating joy and some are about creating memories. Sometimes you get the best of both and that is often the case when gifting an experience to someone. Ideally a wedding anniversary gift experience should be something you can do together and suited to what your personal tastes are … you are not going to go tandem paragliding with someone who is paralysed by a fear of heights!

If you happen to find yourself in verdant KwaZulu Natal then watch out for the potholes! But it will be worth it if you can get yourself to a couple’s spa session at Fourdoun Hotel and Spa and follow this up with a gastronomic extravaganza at Hartford House. But seriously, watch out for the potholes.

For those of you in the Mother City, Clay Cafe in the City offers a really lovely gentle adult evening of drinks, food and pottery painting. You and your beloved could go home with a new favourite tea cup that makes you smile each morning.

Who doesn't like walking, wine, good food and views to die for? Glam Trails offers guided meanders through vineyards, valleys and fynbos in the Western Cape.

And if you are looking for something to raise the adrenaline a bit, then maybe paragliding is where it’s at for you? Fly Cape Town offers tandem jumps - land on the Seapoint Promenade and head into the Winchester for brunch.

For those based in Jozi, the fab little independent cinema The Bioscope lets you book out the cinema for a private screening.

While gifting an experience is about creating memories together, the ideal personalised wedding anniversary gift is about memorialising those memories.

And what triggers emotion and memory more than music? Did you know that each song has a unique sound wave? At SoundLines we can transform the unique soundwave of your wedding song into one of our elegant designs so that you can have that moment memorialised on your wall. Your love story on your wall. A talking piece and a moment in time.

Just like songs, sometimes it’s places that create a deep nostalgia for us. Nifty Posters offers a range of really lovely maps of a variety of locations so that you can capture a place that represents a special time in your relationship. A slightly more obscure but very tasteful way of memorialising a place of importance in your love story is by purchasing one of Shaun Gaylard’s beautiful architectural prints of iconic South African buildings, bridges and towers.

The very talented wedding photographer Misha Lee is not only gifted in her skill behind the camera, but she also hand draws the most gorgeous illustrations. Her style is very unique and quirky - the perfect personalised wedding anniversary gift.

We hope that this helps spark some ideas towards creating keepsakes, in your hearts and homes 😘
