For the love of all kinds of Mothers

Mother’s Day in South Africa is just around the corner (14 May 2023) and honestly we could not think of a more personalised gift this Mother’s Day, than a SoundLine.

Because we totally get it. Mother’s Day is a complicated occasion for many of us.  Motherhood comes in many shapes and forms and like most things in life it is a tapestry of love and loss and it isn’t simple.

There are those of us that would desperately like to be Mothers, but there are all sorts of barriers to us fulfilling this desire; infertility, financial constraints, partners who do not want to be a parent, cultural and family dynamics.

There are those of us that have had the extreme heartbreak of outliving our children: The one in five women walking the streets having suffered a pregnancy loss, the Mothers of angel babies, rainbow babies and sunshine babies. 

And then there are those of us who have lost our Mothers or Mother-figures, some of us have never had a Mother, some of us have very difficult relationships with our Mothers … and this raises all sorts of emotions around this time of the year.

Motherhood looks very different to each of us. There are those of us that are Mothering our children (gifted to us in many different ways) small or all grown-up, those of us Mothering our grandchildren, those of us Mothering our fur-babies …

But one thing we at SoundLines are very sure of, is that all of these versions of reality are deserving of acknowledgement, praise and celebration.

So this Mother’s Day, consider widening the lens on who we ‘see’ this year.
